31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 30 - Inspired by a Tutorial

Hi everyone!  Day 30 of the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE!  AHHH I can't believe how quickly this month has gone!  Today is Inspired by a Tutorial.  It was difficult to chose a new tutorial, but I finally settled on this Easy Dreamcatcher Nail Art by Miss Jen Fabulous of polishandpearls.com!  I love watching her videos and had been wanting to do dreamcatcher nails for a while, so this was the perfect fit!  Also, my cousin Rachel did an amazing dreamcatcher mani recently, so I was inspired by her as well!!! <3

I wanted my dreamcatchers to have a rustic feel, so I went to my current go-to-rustic-feel polish, China Glaze Kalahari Kiss.  I did the dreamcatchers and feathers in It's So Easy Stripe Rite in black and white, and add my "beads" in China Glaze Exotic Encounters and China Glaze Pink Chiffon.  I sealed in my design with a coat of Out the Door top coat.

I liked how these turned out.  They're fun and whimsical, and I like the idea of having a dreamcatcher close by at all times =) Sweet dreams to you all!! <3

Be sure to head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for today.  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!  Tomorrow is it, folks!  Day 31!  Now I just have to pick one of Steph's killer creations to recreate!!!  Such a difficult task!!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 29 - Inspired by the Supernatural

Hello everyone!  I hope your weekend is off to a great start!  Today is already Day 29 of the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE!  Can you believe it?!  I've been looking forward to this day, though I think it is sort of random!  I have seen people do all sorts of things for this theme in the past...ghosts, Halloween themed, yada yada yada.  I decided to do an alien mani!  I love aliens!  I'm sort of hooked on the H2 show Ancient Aliens...don't judge.  It's legit!  =)

I started with a base of Milani White On The Spot to apply my nail art over.  I used Zoya Trixie, Wet N Wild Wild Shine Red Red, and It's so Easy Stripe Rite white for my flying saucer.  Cult Nails Feel Me Up created the abduction beam, and China Glaze I'm With The Life Guard and Wet N Wild Wild Shine Black Creme to make my little aliens!  The grass is Orly Meet Me Under The Mistletoe and the background and thumb were done in Black Creme, CND Effects Sapphire Sparkle, CND Effects Crimson Sparkle, and CND Effects Raspberry Sparkle.  I finished off with one coat of Out the Door and then a thick coat of NYC top coat.  I did this with my medium length striping brush, dotting tool,  and cosmetic sponges.

I am LOVING this!  I'll admit it, I'm quite proud!  It's the first time I've done 1) free-hand nail art of a scene like this and 2) nail art that spreads across multiple nails.  I know it's simple, but I love it.  Aliens!!!

I've been a CND Effects kick lately too.  Sponging them over black is just too good.  I think my little green men are impressed with the sparkly amazingness!  I am happy with this mani...I think it will help me build more confidence to try more scene nail art manicures like this!

So head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for today!  ONLY ONE MORE DAY LEFT STEPH, then we get to recreate our favorites!  It's such a difficult choice because Stephanie has made some amazing nail art manicures.  I know I'll be inspired by her manis from the last month for quite some time.  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!

And I'll leave you with this...

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 28 - Inspired by a Flag

Hi everyone and happy Friday!  Today is Day 28: Inspired by a Flag.  Inspired by a flag? o.O  Hmm...well ok!  I still don't know who originally created the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE but I feel like this day is a stretch!  I thought about several national flags that I find inspiring, Nascar flags, etc etc, but then I thought...hmmm I've been seeing cute little pennant banners all over Pinterest...those are "flags" right??!  My Pinterest Party nails were born!

I started off with a base of Essie Yogaga.  I used my favorite striper, It's So Easy Stripe Rite in white, to create the banner, and filled them in with Essie Pilates Hottie, Essie Boxer Shorts, and Essie Marathin.  I added some purposefully messy dots in Zoya Trixie as "confetti" but I'm not sure that really translated like I saw it in my head.  Out the Door top coat finished off my design.

These definitely aren't my favorite nails I've done for the Challenge, but I am happy with how I interpreted this theme (which I think is the weirdest one of the entire Challenge, with Inspired by the Supernatural coming in at a close second!).  I think the colors and the pennants are very "Pinterest" =)  I am super hooked on Pinterest...check out my boards [HERE]!

So head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for Day 28!  I am sure she has something amazing for this bizarre theme!  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 27 - Inspired by Artwork

Hello lacquered loves and welcome to Day 27: Inspired by Artwork!  I am sooo excited for this mani!  I have been so into the awesome artwork I have seen on pinterest of sugar skulls.  Whether it's make-up looks, paintings, or actual candy sugar skulls, I think the work and imagery is amazing!  Sugar skulls are used in the Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead or Día de los Muertos, when those have passed are honored and remembered.  This dates back to Aztec tradition.  The holiday is observed on November 1.

To make my cute little simple sugar skulls, I used a variety of colors!  On all five nails, I started with a base of Milani High Speed Fast Dry White On The Spot.  For each nail, I used a light and dark shade of a certain color, as well as Wet N Wild Wild Shine Black Creme, It's So Easy Stripe Rite black, and White On The Spot for the accents.  From pinky to thumb, with the light shade listed first, I used the following polishes: Finger Paints Sexy Sundress, Julep Emilie, Julep Hayden, Sinful Colors Citrine, Julep Jessica, Julep Annie, China Glaze Pink Plumeria, OPI That's Berry Daring, Wet N Wild MegaLast On a Trip and Wet N Wild MegaLast Disturbia.  I used Out the Door top coat.

I purposefully made my sugar skulls super simple so that others could replicate them, but you could definitely get super ornate with them!!  I have a tutorial made up that I will be posting once the challenge is over, so you can make your own super simple sugar skull nails!!  Here's a picture of some super pretty sugar skulls that inspired me!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 26 - Inspired by a Pattern

Hello folks!  Happy hump-day!  It's Day 26 of the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE!  I wasn't too sure what to do for today's theme: Inspired by a Pattern.  What an abstract open-ended prompt!  I did several manis before I settled on this one, and I'm not even sure it's a pattern!  It started as a swirl pattern, but then sort of evolved into fingerprints!

For my fingerprint pattern nails I stared with one coat of Sation Oh My Oceania!  This was my first time using Sation polish...I got this in a swap with the lovely Chelsea of The Nail Network!  The formula was great on this one!  I only needed one coat to get the coverage you see here!  and the blue shimmer in this teal polish is FIERCE!  I then used my It's So Easy Stripe Rite striper in black to make my fingerprint swirls.  I used Out the Door top coat to smooth it all out!

You can definitely see the shimmer in these photos...it made the mani gorgeous with a little something extra special!  I know up close, the swirls aren't perfect, but I wanted them that way so that they looked like an individual fingertip swirl!  From a distance, the manicure was sort of hypnotizing!

Head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for today!  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!  Tomorrow is Inspired by Artwork and I am really excited for what I have planned!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 25 - Inspired by Fashion

Hi everyone!  Hope the beginning of your week is going well!  =)  Today is Day 25: Inspired by Fashion.  Lucky us, New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week happened this month, so there is tons of inspiration out there right now!  I love reading about Fashion Week, but mostly because I like to see what nail looks and colors show up on the runway!!  I loved following butter LONDON, Priti NYC and Zoya on Instagram and Facebook during Fashion Week seeing what they were up to!  Today's manicure is inspired by butter LONDON's Cosmic Nail from VEDA NYFW SS13!

Katie Hughes (my hero) of butter LONDON crafted this look using Toff, Sloane Ranger, Knackered, and Union Jack Black.  Unfortunately, I own none of those colors.  =/  So I decided to get creative!  I stayed true to the brand and started off with butter LONDON shades for my base colors: butter LONDON Lady Muck (remember my very first post? awww) and butter LONDON Trout Pout.  I then used one coat of Julep Melissa and one coat of Out the Door Northern Lights Silver to attempt to replicate the look of Knackered layered over the base colors!  Once dry, I used Wet N Wild Wild Shine Black Creme to add a stripe of polish from the tip of the nail to about 2/3 down!  Out the Door top coat!

I love how organic the backstage manicures are at Fashion Week.  The nail art looks have to be simple enough to do quickly if they are doing them on natural nails.  That's why I chose to not use striping tape to create perfect rectangular stripes on this mani.  I wanted to keep that organic, whimsical, hand-done look!  Are you diggin' it?  Do you think this look is cool for everyday, or should it stay on the runway? I'm loving it!

To see more from butter LONDON about this look, check out their Facebook album [here].

So head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with today.  How cute were her Falling Up nails yesterday?  Totally took me back to my childhood =)  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!

Milani Fashion Nail Trends

Hi loves!  Today I have a special post for you!  Milani contacted me a while back and asked if I would be interested in creating some nail art looks inspired by their Fall Fashion Nail Trends promotion!  Of course, I said yes!

The four trends are Colorblock, Glamazon, Gilded Rebel, and Haute Rod.  I sat down to plan out the manicures I wanted to do for each of these themes, with the Milani polishes that were provided.  All of the polishes used in these looks are available in a promotional display that will be out at select Walmart stores!  They are also available at CVS or wherever Milani is sold.  Also, you can find these nail trends on Milani's PINTEREST and see what other bloggers came up with for each trend!!

I used Out the Door top coat for each look below.

The first trend is Colorblock.  Really, there is so much that could be done with this trend!  With the use of tape, really anyone can rock it!  However, I wanted to create looks that just about anyone could recreate so I only used the polish brush, and that's it!  So I did a fun colorblock diagonal tip!  I started with a base of Milani High Speed Fast Dry Black Swift...one coat is all you need!  I polished on a diagonal tip in Milani High Speed Fast Dry White On The Spot.  Once that was dry, I finished the tip off with Milani NEONS Fresh Teal, leaving a strip of white visible.  The contrast in this manicure is phenomenal and it has that wonderful Milani shine!

Milani Fashion Nail Trends: Colorblock

Next up, we have Glamazon!  What is more glamorous than red nails, jewel tones, and glitter?  NOTHING!  This manicure feels royal to me!  I started with a base of Milani High Speed Fast Dry Rapid Cherry and used the polish brush to apply a stripe of Milani Purple Glam down the center of the nail.  Milani makes the best full coverage microglitter polishes!  The purple glitter stripe was one coat!

Milani Fashion Nail Trends: Glamazon

Gilded Rebel was a fun one!  High contrast glitter gradients are on trend right now, especially with hot gold glitter like this!  The rebellious portion of this manicure stems from the fact that the base for this mani was the glitter, not the creme polish.  I started with two coats of Milani Gold Glitz.  Again, an amazing full coverage glitter.  I then used a cosmetic sponge to sponge Milani High Speed Fast Dry Black Swift onto the tips of my nails.  SO SPARKLY and fantastic!

Milani Fashion Nail Trends: Gilded Rebel

The final trend is Haute Rod.  I was a little stumped with what to do for this one, so I decided to do exactly what the name implies!  The word "haute" itself means high trend, so I decided to do a trendy manicure with a new-to-me technique: dry brushing.  I got as much of the polish off of the brush that I could and then randomly brushed it onto my polished nail.  I used a base of Milani NEONS Fresh Teal and did the dry brushing with Milani High Speed Fast Dry Black Swift.  The artistic dry brush technique and the high contrast colors make this look super "haute"!

Milani Fashion Nail Trends: Haute Rod

I hope you like my nail trends with Milani polishes!  I really enjoyed working on this project, and it sparked a lot of inspiration that I look forward to creating in the future!  Again, check out the Milani Pinterest boards [HERE] to see the Milani Fashion Nail Trends looks that your favorite nail bloggers came up with!!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 24 - Inspired by a Book

Welcome to Day 24 of the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE!  Today's nails were inspired by my favorite book series out there: Harry Potter!  Sorry Twilight, Hunger Games, and 50 Shades....nothing can pull me away from the amazingly well-crafted series I grew up with!!  These past few days have been fun because I get to share some of my favorite things with you all  =)

I had big dreams for a Harry Potter mani with characters, but I just wasn't doing it justice, so I decided to go with a simple tape mani and some well-chosen polishes!  I started out with three coats of Wet N Wild MegaLast Under Your Spell.  This vampy sparkler is phenomenal for $1.99!  Reminiscent of German-icure and Every Month is Oktoberfest from OPI (potential comparison post coming soon).  I then used scotch tape to create my lightning bolt in Essie Good As Gold.  I am impressed with the Mirrored Metallics' use in nail art!  I then added a coat of Essie As Gold As It Gets to all of my nails.  The combination of the sparkle in the base color and the gold flakes is magical!!   Finished it off with a coat of Out the Door top coat.

I really loved how these turned out.  It was hard to capture the shimmery-glimmery-ness (my new word?!) of this look on camera, but really, it was awesome! I get so hyped up when I'm talking about Harry Potter, so these nails had me bouncing around!  Here's a little behind-the-scenes look for you...

Thanks for reading!!  Love you all! <3  Head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with.  Her "inspired by" manis have been amazing so far!  She's been going through a really rough time loosing her dog, Lacey, so send some love her way =(  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!  See you tomorrow for my fashion-inspired mani!

Essie Dots with Yogaga Shades

Good evening everyone.  Hope you had a nice weekend.  Mine was good.  On Friday, I attended a friend's wedding, and I wanted to share with you the nails I did!  I recently got the Essie Yogaga Collection for review (post coming later this week), and I was excited to do some nail art with them!

I'll keep it short and sweet because the swatches and review of these polishes are coming soon!  I used Essie Marathin as my base color, with dots in Essie Yogaga and Essie Gym Dandy.  I finished it off with a coat of Out the Door.

They even sort of coordinated with my dress!  =)  Congrats to Allison and Nick on their marriage!

And Happy Birthday to my husband today!! <3

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 23 - Inspired by a Movie

HELLO friends!  Day 23 of the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE!  Day 23 already?!  Really?!  Crazy how quickly this month seems to be flying by!   Today's nails are to be Inspired by a Movie.  I picked my favorite ever!  Can you guess from the color scheme which leading lady inspired these?!

These nails are inspired by The Little Mermaid!  Ariel's main color scheme can be seen in these saran wrap skittles!  I used what felt like a ton of colors for this manicure!  For each nail, I applied the lighter shade first, and once dry, I did the saran wrap technique with the darker color!  On my thumb, I carefully free-handed on the blue chevron.  The colors I used were (lighter listed first, then darker shade, from pinky to thumb): Wet N Wild Wild Shine Red Red, Essie Size Matters, Wet N Wild MegaLast On A Trip, Wet N Wild MegaLast Distrubia, Essie Body Language, Essie Brooch The Subject, OPI Gargantuan Green Grape, Essie Mojito Madness, Essie Bikini So Tini, and China Glaze Ride The Waves.  WHEW!  The thumb is supposed to represent her tail in an abstract way, against the background of the sea!

I loved the subtle contrast and marbled look of this manicure, and once you realize it, it is soooo Ariel inspired!  To make it a bit more magical, I added a coat of China Glaze Snow Globe.

Do you think this mani is "more Ariel" with the glitters or without?  I'm torn...I love it both ways!  I'm off to sing Little Mermaid songs!  Have a great day everyone! <3

Head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for movie day!  Steph has been on a roll with her creative nail art!  <3  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!  Check back tomorrow for my nails inspired by my favorite book!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 22 - Inspired by a Song

Hello lacquered lovelies!  Today is Day 22: Inspired by a Song.  It didn't take long at all to decide which song to choose!  John Mayer - The Age of Worry.  This song is off of John's newest album Born and Raised.  It is my favorite album ever.  I swear, John Mayer sings straight to my heart...I've loved him since the beginning and I will always love him!  I live my life by the same ideals he writes about, and I just adore him.

A sampling of lyrics to make the nails make sense:

Alive in the age of worry
Rage in the age of worry
Sing out in the age of worry
And sing Worry, why should I care?
Rage in the age of worry
Act your age in the age of worry
And sing Worry, get out of here!

I love that the word "rage" would usually indicate something angry or negative, but not in this case.  It's about living life full of passion and peace!!  Ha, if you hadn't already caught on, I'm sort of a hippie <3

I chose colors for this manicure that go along with the rustic, down-home feel of the Born and Raised album.  I started with a base of China Glaze Exotic Encounters and free-handed on a 50/50 manicure with Priti NYC Giant Granadilla.  Once that dried, I used my striping brush and China Glaze Kalahari Kiss to do the text and accent on the thumb.  I finished off with two coats of Out the Door top coat.  I LOVE THIS.

So head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for Day 22!  I am so excited to see what inspired her today!  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!

31 Day Nail Art Challenge: Day 21 - Inspired by a Color

Hello lacquered lovelies!  Happy Friday and welcome to the third column of the 31 DAY NAIL ART CHALLENGE!!  Today's prompt is Inspired by a Color.  The color I chose is...the color of a Cherry Coke can!  I have had an unhealthy love affair with Cherry Coke this summer, and decided to do some fun abstract nail art with that inspiration =)

I tracked down the perfect Cherry Coke pink in my stash: Zoya Jacy.  I used two coats.  I then used Zoya Gilda to do some funky tips.  The gorgeous pink glass fleck in Gilda really added something special to Jacy.  I loved it so much like that, but decided to add some accents with my It's So Easy Stripe Rite brushes in red, magenta, and silver sparkle.  I used Out the Door top coat to smooth it all out.

The mani and its inspiration!  Yummy!

Mmmm this makes me thirsty!!  They are fun and girly!  And I think Zoya Jacy is a nice shade for fall...I don't usually reach for colors like this, but I think I will in the future!

So head on over to Sincerely Stephanie and check out what she came up with for Day 21!  I am sure she is going to just kill the last 1/3 of the Challenge!!  Click the image below to see all of my 31 Day Nail Art Challenge posts!

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Hi everyone!  September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, so I decided to do a teal manicure in its honor.  I present to you my first jelly glitter sandwich manicure!

I started with my base coat and then one coat of AEngland Galahad to cover my visible nail line.  I then did two thin coats of Zoya Frida from the Gloss Collection.  Once that had dried, I applied one coat of Jordana GLITTERS Celestial and finished it off with another coat of Zoya Frida.  I finished it off with one coat of Out the Door top coat.  SO SHINY!

I looooved this manicure!  So gorgeous, shiny, and spectacular.  This is the first glitter sandwich mani I have done, and I'm not sure what took me so long!!  Just lovely.

One of my dearest friend's mom is an ovarian cancer survivor, so I did these nails in her honor!  She is such a strong woman and a constant inspiration, even if I don't get to see her regularly anymore.  For more information about ovarian cancer and what you can do to help spread awareness of this deadly disease affecting women, click [here].
